NCT Magazine

NCT Offspring Magazine – Spring 2014

I’m delighted to be writing this introduction as the new Editor of Offspring, following in the rather large footsteps of Sarah G! Although I am a happy Mum of two babies (and three dogs) and a new ‘mumtrepreneur’ (insert shameless plug for Little Chicken Marketing here), I felt that I wanted to give something back to NCT and spend some of my spare time doing something worthwhile and fun.

And, I’m not the only newbie; Louisa H joins us as Branch Secretary, Frankie C is our new Bumps & Babes Coordinator, and Annabelle W has now taken on the role of branch coordinator as well as running our Waddlers & Toddlers playgroup since January. If you are interested in joining the team, we still need to fill the vacancy of Co-Chair / Deputy Branch Coordinator. It’s a lovely role and critical to the future on-going success of the branch – see page 13 for more details.

With a faint hint of warmer weather approaching, you can pick up some Spring and Summer clothing bargains for baby, toddler and older children up to age six, plus maternity items at our Nearly New Sale on Saturday 5th April at All Saints’ Academy from 10:30am-12 noon. New sellers to NCT might find our Top 10 Selling Tips on page 41 will help them see success, and an empty car boot!

Finally I’d like to Wish you all a very Happy Mother’s Day…let’s hope the baby
sleeps, the toddler learns to sleep in and mum gets a well-deserved rest!

Happy Easter!
Jo

NCT Magazine Cotswolds – Winter 2013

Welcome

Winter is upon us once again and we hope you are wrapping up warm and continuing to enjoy the outdoors, even when cold and crispy underfoot. As December arrives, the children’s excitement for Christmas really begins to build. There’s so much going on in Cheltenham and the surrounding areas over the next few months – see page 10 for some pointers!

Don’t forget to involve grandparents and other relatives in your festive shopping plans. Your newborn won’t need lots of expensive toys from Santa, so why not consider asking for money towards a mum and baby course that you can enjoy together? There’s a great choice available locally (check out the adverts in this issue!) from swimming to music, signing to gym sessions. And it means both you and your baby will benefit from the present well into 2014.

We are delighted to welcome new volunteers to our branch team this quarter. Emily G joins us as Membership Coordinator, Rachel M is our Parent Support Coordinator and Claire T is our new Advertising Coordinator. We’ve been as busy as ever, launching a new welcome event in November which provides an opportunity for those finishing their antenatal classes to meet their course host and to find out more about local NCT activities. This will be run on a monthly basis and will be open to anyone wanting to find out more about NCT, whether they attended classes with us or not.

After nearly four years as Branch Coordinator, I have decided to step down from my role from the New Year. I have enjoyed volunteering with the local branch immensely, have made many friends and felt such a great sense of achievement from helping Cheltenham be one of the most successful NCT branches in the country. I have no doubt this will continue in future too. This will also be my final edition of Offspring as Acting Editor, a role that I took on temporarily six issues ago! Details of both vacancies will be posted on Facebook and on our website and we hope to welcome new people on board soon to join our friendly team.

Whilst many baby and toddler related groups close over the school holidays, we try to keep our NCT groups open wherever possible, but, as Christmas falls on a Wednesday this year, both Waddlers & Toddlers and Bumps & Babes will be closed for two weeks over the festive period. Keep an eye on our website or ‘like’ our Facebook page for up-to-date information.

Wishing you and your families a lovely Christmas and very Happy New Year.

Sarah

NCT Offspring Magazine – Summer Edition 2013

Welcome to the latest newsletter from NCT Cheltenham and North Cotswolds branch.

We are here to support you on your journey from bump to newborn, through those early stages of rolling, sitting, crawling and walking; all the way through weaning to potty training! From antenatal courses to baby first aid; from introduction to solids to waterbirth workshops, NCT has been helping new parents for nearly 60 years.

You can find information and support on the whole range of issues to do with pregnancy, early parenthood and beyond via the NCT website and helplines but in your local area, what we can do is help you meet other new parents and create a support network where you can chat and compare notes, ask questions, share experiences and generally feel more confident in your new role as a parent.

Come along to our drop-in groups – Bumps and Babes meets every Thursday; Waddlers and Toddlers every Wednesday – you’ll be very welcome and refreshments are available too!

And don’t forget the NCT Nearly New Sales where you can get huge bargains on clothes, toys and equipment – we run four per year in Spring and Autumn (dates on our website) and if you volunteer to help at the sale, you get to shop early! You do not have to be an NCT member to shop or volunteer – everybody is welcome!

NCT Magazine – Winter 2012

Welcome
You wouldn’t expect our winter edition to be without a few Christmas ideas, recipes and events, and we haven’t let you down. But winter is about more than Christmas and we’ve packed in some information and advice to get you through those bleak days. This time of year often makes us think of those who we aren’t with us, and we have a touching article on page 42 which might resonate with our readers. Your local NCT branch will be providing support right through the holiday season, so take a look at page 50 for helplines and groups.

For the rainy days we’ve got some suggestions for play activities (page 17) but if you’re looking for a reason to get out of the house come along to one of our play groups. Waddlers & Toddlers, in the heart of Charlton Kings on a Wednesday morning, offers a great range of age appropriate toys in a safe, warm environment. Free refreshments are provided, with healthy snacks for the children, and throughout December there will be Christmas themed crafts available for pre-school children. We have a dedicated baby section so you’re welcome to come and get cosy with your little one, or you can find your way to Montpellier on a Thursday morning where our Bumps & Babes group meets. This is the perfect place to meet up with your antenatal group or meet new friends over a cuppa and fantastic, tasty cakes.

Your local NCT branch is run by volunteers; from the coordinating of the Nearly New Sales and baby groups, to the class hosts who welcome you into their homes, and the editorial team which produces Offspring. Without the time and skills offered by all our contributors, many families in need would be left unsupported. This season we’d like to thank those who truly have the Christmas spirit all year round, and who make our team so great. We’re hoping to  start the New Year with a full committee, so please do check out the vacancies on page 12 to see how you can get involved. We’ll also have a few new committee-babies, in fact one has just arrived at the time of going to print! Congratulations to Sarah D and family on the birth of their baby girl and good luck to Anna O!

Best wishes, happy reading,
and a very merry Christmas!
