About Oldham – Autumn 2014

Welcome to this Autumn issue of About Oldham.
We’ve enjoyed a little sunshine during the Summer which certainly added to the fun of Oldham Carnival and the Pride event. Once again YANKS proved a great success in attracting visitors and shoppers to the Saddleworth area.

As the evenings grow darker we begin that journey to Christmas – yes, I’ve said it now – CHRISTMAS IS COMING! When the next issue arrives it will just in time for the start of that Christmas shopping in November and the launch of the Christmas Lights!

But don’t panic just yet, we still have a great halloween and fireworks event to look forward to! Plus don’t forget the clocks are going back at the end of October too!
I hope you enjoy this latest issue of the magazine and my huge thanks to Sharon Hibbert for her enthusiastic support. We have some great features on Oldham Carnival, the YANKS weekend and a great interview with local artist Cliff Murphy.

Don’t miss your chance to be featured in our special Christmas themed issue due out in November – deadline for that will be October 22nd! To submit your news articles or to advertise just get in touch via email at news@aboutoldham.com or leave a message at our office on 0161 343 3755.

Thanks again to the kind support of our advertisers and those who distribute the magazine.

Happy days
Kevin

About Oldham Magazine – June 2014

Welcome to our Summer issue of About Oldham. In this issue we highlight the great work done by the volunteers at MAHDLO and that of Voluntary Action. We were joined by students from Ashton Sixth Form College who have put together some great features including a Behind The Scenes peek at Revolution Radio. There’s lots of events coming up for the Summer including the debut of a new play in Saddleworth, HARD WIRED, which tackles the dark side of the internet. There’s lots of family fun too of course with Oldham Carnival being one of the highlights.

Don’t forget to show your support for Dr Kershaws Hospice too with their Garden Party and Duck Race events !

As ever our grateful thanks to all our advertisers and we hope you enjoy this latest issue.

About Oldham

About Oldham – January 2014

Happy New Year from all of us at About Oldham and look ahead to see what 2014 will bring. We know Metrolink services will be starting in the town centre itself soon and the hope that this will bring much needed shoppers to the independent traders on Union Street, Yorkshire Street and beyond. One of our features this issue looks a few of the traders on Yorkshire Street and details from the council on how plans are being made to improve these areas. Henshaw Street also has the spotlight thrown on it this issue to highlight the fantastic range of businesses in this area of Oldham.

We also look back at the busy Doctor Who event held in Oldham back in November and also the Remembrance services. We meet Ian Dunkerley, the chairman and co-founder of Santos AFC and also chat to young DJ James Barry-Williamson. It’s also great to highlight the strong community spirit demonstrated by the traders in Shaw who feature on the cover of this issue.

If you have listened to The Car Guru on Revolution Radio then take a look at Paul’s new motoring column in the magazine.
